FROM THE FARM
Check out Sprout City Farms' recent newsletter for updates on our 7th season, and info on our crowdfunding campaign!
Sprout City Farms is in a critical transition period and has launched a campaign to raise $10,000 by December 15th to keep our current farms growing and meet our food access and education goals for 2018. We're nearly halfway to our fundraising goal: please check it out, make a pledge, and share! Denver developers are buying up land at a rapid clip and we need your help to ensure we can build future urban farms in order to grow the local food movement, protect remaining lands, keep communities strong, and continue getting kids outside to learn about food and farming!
2017 Wrap-up:
We've wrapped up our 7th season at the farm! Thanks to all who came out to visit, help in the field, shop at the Farm Stand, and/or attend a workshop or event! This year we produced 7,000 pounds of fresh food for the School Cafeteria, CSA program, Farm Stand, and Donation programs, hosted nearly all DGS grade levels/classes multiple times in the spring and fall, hosted over 200 volunteers, and all in all reached over 1,500 families! We appreciate the support of the Denver Green School community and look forward to seeing everyone again outside starting in April. Until then, we'll be working with the PTA/PASS on forming a Wellness Committee to support food/nutrition initiatives of the farm and garden--stay tuned!
2018 Farm CSA Shares:
Weekly shares of the farm's harvest are now on sale for 2018! It's like pre-paid grocery shopping: come to the DGS Community Farm each Wednesday 4-6pm from late June to late October and get a box full o' seasonal veggies to take home! Veggie/herb/flower shares are $450 (payment plans available), and we offer fruit, egg, meat, mushroom, and tea shares through local partners. Check out all the info on Sprout City Farms' website and get in touch with Farmer Meg if you'd like to know more! ([email protected], 720-319-8126) Work shares and SNAP/EBT shares are also available--info and applications are on the website.
