Hi Families!
We wanted to send a few quick updates!
We had about 75% of students successfully complete math homework about about 50% of students successfully finish literacy. Here are a couple helpful tips:
Math-
For literacy homework you can see the two main parts we are focused on right now! The reading log is filled out by both the student and the g
grown up at home. The student has filled in the title, author, time they read from, how many pages and made sure their adult wrote their initials. This final piece is important to us so that you know what your child is reading! I’m happy to send along comprehension questions if you’d like. Feel free to email me and I’ll email them to you!! The short answer questions are wonderfully done because the student eliminated answers they knew were wrong based on the text. The biggest piece with this is that students GO BACK TO THE TEXT for evidence! Evidence is so important in third grade literacy. It is vital that they use it to guide their answers. There is an essay portion on the back and the minimum number of sentences they can write is 5. Please remind them that as third graders one sentence is not enough. I will send along more information how to fill these out as the year moves on. Thanks!
Excursion Tomorrow! Please dress accordingly with comfy shoes to walk in!

We had about 75% of students successfully complete math homework about about 50% of students successfully finish literacy. Here are a couple helpful tips:
Math-
- Please make sure there is a date on top of each homework page
- Homework is done in math journals in the KARS format. I've included a reference for parents regarding KARS on the back of h/w this week
- I encourage students to do one homework problem per night because the grapple from class matches homework. I understand if this doesn't work each night, so homework will be checked on Friday
- There are a few examples of great math homework at the bottom of this email.
- Math homework is now posted on the website in case you need an extra copy. This is Week 4!
