1ST GRADE PARENT WORKSHOP
The goals is to build the relationship between teachers and families in our combined efforts for student learning. It will also be a fun community building event between families.
When: Thursday, December 14th, 4:00-5:15
Where: Rooms 110 & 111- Ms. Davison and Ms. Cirullo's classrooms
What: This workshop will be focused on how you can best support your child with reading and math at home. We will convene in Rm. 111 for a 1st Grade meet-and-greet. We will then split off into respective classrooms for workshops on literacy and math. The literacy workshop will be focused on supporting students with phonics and reading comprehension strategies. The math workshop will focus on the "ins" and "outs" of the Bridges Curriculum. This math curriculum is new to DGS and widely used across DPS. We will explore some of the curriculum materials and share language and strategies. We understand a 4:00 time slot can be challenging, but to make it more accessible we will also be offering free childcare for 1st graders and siblings.

We are asking for DGS families to donate baked goods to our classes starting the week of the 18th. The 3rd grade students will be working during math class to set prices with profit and success in mind. If you are interested in donating a baked good, please e-mail both 3rd grade teachers, firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com by Dec. 15th, so we can properly plan for the event!

SCHOOLCHOICE WILL OPEN IN FEBRUARY
The office of Choice has moved the window from January to February. The 2018-19 school year choice window will be February 1st thru February 28th. This change will give families more time to research schools and finalize living arrangements. Applications won't be available until that date and school assignments results are expected to be sent to families in early April.
DPS is introducing an online, mobile-friendly tool which families will use to submit your SchoolChoice application. This new tool can be easily accessed from a cell phone, tablet or computer. Because of this change to an online application process, lots of resources will be available for families, including: the SchoolChoice telephone hotline (720)423-3493 access to computer labs and technology support at their child’s school; one-on-one support from SchoolChoice staff; online information to help families use the new School Finder and SchoolChoice application tool; community events; and more. The new tool will be available once the Choice process opens in February.
Be sure to send your students in the appropriate layers for a Colorado Winter.
If it's above 20 degress and there is no ice on the playground, we will be outside for recess.

FROM THE FARM
Read Sprout City Farms' recent newsletter for updates on our 7th season, and info on our crowdfunding campaign! Sprout City Farms is in a critical transition period and has launched a campaign to raise $10,000 by December 15th to keep our current farms growing and meet our food access and education goals for 2018. We're nearly halfway to our fundraising goal: please check it out, make a pledge, and share! Denver developers are buying up land at a rapid clip and we need your help to ensure we can build future urban farms in order to grow the local food movement, protect remaining lands, keep communities strong, and continue getting kids outside to learn about food and farming!

We've wrapped up our 7th season at the farm! Thanks to all who came out to visit, help in the field, shop at the Farm Stand, and/or attend a workshop or event! This year we produced 7,000 pounds of fresh food for the School Cafeteria, CSA program, Farm Stand, and Donation programs, hosted nearly all DGS grade levels/classes multiple times in the spring and fall, hosted over 200 volunteers, and all in all reached over 1,500 families! We appreciate the support of the Denver Green School community and look forward to seeing everyone again outside starting in April. Until then, we'll be working with the PTA/PASS on forming a Wellness Committee to support food/nutrition initiatives of the farm and garden--stay tuned!
