We are excited to let you know about an exciting professional development opportunity in which we both will be participating this year. Ten teachers at two DPS schools are collaborating to increase our instructional effectiveness in teaching reading, writing and math. (Math for Ms. Y and Reading/Writing for Ms. D)
Our professional learning will include participating in monthly Learning Labs, through which we will visit other teachers’ classrooms to observe literacy instruction and delve deeply into strategies that enable students to read and write with increasingly stronger skills. As part of this experience, Ms. D will also attending a special conference in November which will deepen her instructional approaches. These opportunities will help us hone our teaching skills to bring our best to our students.
Ms. Yonkus's first group learning session was last week on September 15. Ms. Detmer's first group learning session is September 22 and will be followed by the monthly professional development we’ve mentioned above. While this work means we both will miss days of teaching with our students, we look forward to bringing our new learning and increased skill back to the classroom to benefit them.
